Alanya is a city on the southern Mediterranean coast of Turkey, in the province of Antalya. It is a popular tourist destination, as it lies on the Turquoise Coast, and is home to the ruins of the Seljuk era Damlatas Cave and the Alaaddin Mosque.
The city is located on a bay, with a marina, surrounded by mountains. To the north, the Taurus Mountains rise sharply, and to the south the long, narrow Alanya Castle peninsula extends into the sea.
The old town of Alanya is situated inside the city walls on a headland that projects into the Mediterranean Sea. The walls were built in the 13th century by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate. The old town contains narrow streets, a large bazaar, and many historical buildings, including the Seljuk era Damlatas Cave and the Alaaddin Mosque.
