Charles Bridge

Charles Bridge, with its cobbled pathway and gallery of statues, is a testament to Prague's medieval origins. Commissioned by King Charles IV in 1357, this structure has withstood floods and wars, offering a historical pathway connecting the Old Town with the Lesser Town (Mala Strana).

Spanning the Vltava River, the bridge was the city's only crossing for a long time. It remains a central spot for visitors and residents. The bridge is notable for its positioning with the equinox sunrise, showing the combination of science and art of its era. The Gothic towers at each end of the 621 meters (2034 feet) long bridge provide a striking entry and exit, featuring views of Prague for those who climb their stairs.

Lined with 30 statues and statuaries, mostly in the Baroque style, each figure tells a story, especially that of St. John of Nepomuk. It's said that touching the statue will bring good luck and make sure you come back to Prague. This is a pedestrian-only bridge; the absence of cars keeps its appeal. The best times to visit are early morning or late evening to stay away from the crowds and fully appreciate the bridge. During these times, you can notice details like the stone work and the skill of the statues.
