Wilten Abbey consists of the Collegiate Church and the monastery. The first monastery on this site came about in 878AD. The legend is that a fight broke out between two giants, the local Tyrsus and a Germanic immigrant, Haymon. Haymon caused the death of Tyrsus and as atonement he is said to have built the monastery in Wilten. | Innsbruck in Austria

Save to List
City in 🇦🇹 Austria with a population of around 130 thousand people.

Austria’s Tyrol region is one of the most beautiful corners of the Alps, and Innsbruck is its crown jewel. The city is a stunning mix of medieval and modern, with a soaring alpine backdrop. The narrow streets of the Altstadt (Old Town) are crammed with ancient churches and grandiose Baroque palaces, while the Hofburg and other grandiose buildings loom over the modern city centre. The skiing is world-class and the hiking and mountain biking are some of the best in Europe, but it’s the views that will take your breath away. From the city’s high points, the snow-capped peaks of the Alps stretch out before you in every direction.
