Falun is a small town in the heart of Sweden’s mining country. Once a thriving center of the copper industry, the town is now a quiet, picturesque place surrounded by forests and lakes. The main attraction is the Falun Copper Mine, a vast complex of tunnels and shafts that operated for over 800 years. Today, the mine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and visitors can explore the labyrinthine tunnels and see the miners’ cottages, now preserved as a museum. There are also a number of other museums in Falun, including the Falun Folk Museum, which tells the story of the town’s history, and the Swedish National Mining Museum, which charts the development of the mining industry in Sweden.
