Novi Pazar

Novi Pazar is a town in southwestern Serbia, located on the banks of the Ibar River. It is the administrative center of the Raška District. The city has a population of 78,523, while the urban area has a population of 128,512.

The town was known as "Rascia" during the Middle Ages. It was a capital of the Serbian province of Rascia. In Turkish it was known as "Yeni Pazar" (New Market), hence the modern name.

The city is an important cultural center of the Bosniaks in Serbia. It is home to the seat of the Islamic Community of Serbia, the country's largest Islamic organization. The old town of Novi Pazar is an important archaeological site, with many artifacts from the Roman period.
