Vaslui

Vaslui is a city in eastern Romania and the capital of Vaslui County. It is located on the Bahlui River, about east of Iași. The city administers six villages: Bârca, Copăceanca, Dărmănești, Iacobeni, Mărculești and Sălcioara. Vaslui is the most important city of the historical region of Moldavia.

The first documentary record of Vaslui is from 1408, when the local ruler, Alexandru cel Bun, granted the city the right to organize fairs and to mint coins. The city was burned down by the Tatars in 1475 and by the Ottomans in 1538. It was rebuilt in the 16th century, when it acquired its present-day appearance.
