Drobeta-Turnu Severin

Drobeta-Turnu Severin is a Romanian city on the banks of the Danube, in the Banat region. It is the capital of the Mehedinti County. The city was named after the Severin dynasty of Byzantine emperors.

Drobeta-Turnu Severin is an industrial city and an important river port. It is also an agricultural center, with vineyards, orchards, and livestock breeding. It has a large thermal power plant and a metallurgical plant.

The city is situated on the left bank of the Danube, at the mouth of the Severin Canal, which connects the river with the Iron Gate. It is connected by rail with Bucharest and Timisoara and by road with Caransebes, Arad, and Budapest.

The city has a population of 150,000.
