The capital of Oman is a city of contrasts. On one hand, there's the modern city with its high-rise buildings and sprawling malls. On the other hand, there are the ancient souks (markets) where you can buy traditional Omani handicrafts and spices. Muscat is also home to some beautiful mosques, including the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which can accommodate up to 20,000 worshippers. The Mutrah quarter is a great place to wander around, with its narrow streets, traditional houses and lively markets. And if you're looking for some beach time, head to Qurum Beach, which is located just outside the city.
