Hilversum is a small, affluent town in the centre of the Netherlands, just a half-hour train ride from Amsterdam. Once a sleepy agricultural community, Hilversum has become a bustling hub for Dutch media and broadcasting, with dozens of radio and TV stations headquartered here. The town is also home to a number of large commercial and industrial parks, and a growing number of high-tech startups. Despite its modern infrastructure, Hilversum has managed to retain much of its historic charm, with a well-preserved town centre and a wealth of Art Nouveau architecture. The town is also a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, including the stunning Gooi and Vecht regions.
