Hengelo

Hengelo is a small city in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Overijssel. It is located in the Twente region, east of the city of Enschede. The city had a population of 84,362 in January 2017.

Hengelo was founded in the late 12th century on the banks of the River Dinkel. The city developed into an important trade center, known for its textile industry. In the 19th century, Hengelo became a manufacturing center, especially for textiles and metal products.

The city is home to the Tiburgsebaan, the oldest motorway in the Netherlands. The motorway was opened in 1932 and is now part of the A1 motorway.

Hengelo is also home to the Gelredome, a large stadium that is used for football, rugby, and concerts. The stadium is the home stadium of Vitesse Arnhem and the Netherlands national rugby team.
