Toluca is a city of contrasts. Once a small colonial town, it is now a bustling, modern city. Toluca's main square, the Plaza de la Constitución, is a beautiful, tree-lined plaza with a large bronze statue of José María Morelos y Pavón in the center. The Metropolitan Cathedral, which faces the plaza, is a magnificent example of Mexican baroque architecture. The city's other main square, the Plaza de San Francisco, is home to the San Francisco Temple, one of the most important churches in Mexico. Toluca is also home to a number of interesting museums, including the Museo de Arte Moderno, the Museo de la Revolución and the Museo de Cultura Popular.
