Trakai

Trakai is a fairytale-like town in central Lithuania, built around a serene lake. The old town is a picturesque maze of narrow streets and wooden houses, many of which have been converted into restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops. The Trakai Peninsula Castle, on an island in the middle of the lake, is a must-see, as is the nearby Karaim Museum, dedicated to the Turkic-speaking Jewish people who have lived in the area for centuries. In summer, the town comes to life with festivals and concerts, and the lake is a popular spot for swimming, boating and fishing.
