Fuji is Japan’s most iconic mountain, and for good reason. The perfectly symmetrical volcano is a dormant one, last erupting in 1707, and is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. The mountain is located in Shizuoka Prefecture, about 100 kilometres south-west of Tokyo, and is easily accessible by train. There are a number of trails to the summit, varying in difficulty, and the views from the top are spectacular. In the winter, the slopes of Fuji are a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders.
