Salò is a small town on the southwestern shore of Lake Garda in Italy. It is best known as the place where Benito Mussolini and his mistress, Claretta Petacci, were executed by Italian partisans on April 28, 1945. The town is also the birthplace of the Italian poet Francesco Petrarca.
Salò is a quiet town with a population of around 16,000. It is a popular tourist destination, thanks to its location on the lake and its many historic buildings, including the Palazzo della Regione, the Palazzo dei Congressi, and the Villa Malcontenta. The town is also home to the Centro di Documentazione della Resistenza, a museum dedicated to the Italian resistance movement.
