Ashdod

Ashdod is a city in southern Israel. It is the sixth-largest city in the country with a population of 220,000. The city is located in the Tel Aviv District of the Central Coastal Plain, on the Mediterranean Sea coast, and is home to the country's largest port. Ashdod is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible and it is known in the Mishnah for its production of salt. Ashdod was founded in 1956 as a development town and it was designated as the country's first regional city.
