Margaret Island (Hungarian: Margit-sziget) is a 2.5 km long island, 500 metres wide, in the middle of the Danube in central Budapest, Hungary. It belongs administratively to the 13th district. The island is mostly covered by landscape parks, and is a popular recreational area. Its medieval ruins are reminders of its importance in the Middle Ages as a religious centre. The island spans the area between the Margaret Bridge (south) and the Árpád Bridge (north). | Budapest in Hungary
This image features the parliament building in Budapest, Hungary. In the early summer months the ambient light from the sunrise begins around 4am offering a soft glow of light for an extended period of time. The orange sky and soft color of the water give me a sense of calmness and tranquility.

Budapest is one of Europe’s most beautiful and exciting cities. Divided by the Danube River, Buda on the west bank is hilly and historic, while Pest on the east is flatter and more modern. Highlights include the neo-Gothic Parliament building, the grand Chain Bridge, the lively and vibrant nightlife of the Jewish Quarter and the thermal baths. Don’t miss the chance to take a scenic river cruise or a hike in the hills of Buda for the best views of the city.

What people say

We were looking at a place to travel a few years ago. We had some people we knew earlier in Budapest, but we didn’t knew anything about the place so we did our research on the internet to find out more. What we’ve read was amazing, but it was about time to experience all those things by ourselves! From the moment we stepped off the plane in Budapest, I felt immediately drawn to this magnificent city. The lighting on the streets, how everything was organized and the efficiency of their services within the airport was outstanding. The people there were friendly and welcoming, within a few hours after we landed there, we ordered some food. The food was delicious, the amount was good and affordable, so that was a huge plus for us. Furthermore, the days we navigated there within the city, the architecture was breathtaking overall. We went to a festival every day during our stay, and it never disappointed us. The view from Fisherman's Bastion was breathtaking as well! I cannot wait until my next visit to Budapest! The views are so beautiful. The food at the outdoor markets is delicious and affordable. The people are friendly and welcoming. All around, a wonderful city to visit. - G.Georgiou

I can't really think of any complaints about Budapest, except for how hot and humid it was when I visited in mid-June. Overall, I fell in love with this city! The coffee culture scene and number of incredible cafes truly surprised me. I had no idea the coffee would be so good! Above all, the bath houses were my favorite aspect of Budapest. Solo I visited Széchenyi Thermal Bath on an early morning and it was blissful. It's the most touristic one, so visiting early was the best decision. I had most of it to myself and the locals. Then, with a friend we went to Rudas Bath on the womens-only day (I think it's on Tuesdays). We acted as the locals and went nude. It was so enjoyable! Then, we put our swimsuits on to enjoy the 360 degree pool on the rooftop. It offered great views of the city!

I visited Budapest for a weekend and definitely want to go back in the future. The city is very pedestrian-friendly and has a lot of interesting architecture. I think I averaged 20k+ steps every day we were there as the weather was great, it was easy to get around, and plenty to explore. I managed to have a bunch of nice meals, my favorites were Hungarian gulasch soup and some delicious strudels with different fillings that we found at the Central Market Hall. Another highlight was the Margitsziget island in the middle of river Donau that divides Buda and Pest. The island is dedicated to exercise and enjoying the outdoors, a proper oasis in the middle of the city. It has a running track around the entire island and many activities one could try. You also have the option of having a beer and watching other people run around, which is what I did :)
