Grasse is the perfume capital of the world. It’s also one of the most beautiful towns in France, perched on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. The narrow streets are lined with perfume shops, ateliers and boutiques, as well as art galleries, museums and restaurants. There are several lovely squares, including the Place du Cours, with its fountains and palm trees, and the Place aux Aires, with its pretty wrought-iron balconies. The highlight is the old town, with its picturesque buildings and winding streets. Don’t miss the Notre Dame du Puy cathedral, with its interesting mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance styles, and the Musée International de la Parfumerie, which traces the history of perfume-making.
