The Dominican Republic’s capital is a heady mix of Spanish colonial grandeur and Caribbean vibrancy. The cobbled streets of the Zona Colonial are lined with churches and monasteries, while the Malecón is a hive of activity, with street vendors, musicians and hawkers selling all sorts of wares. The city is also home to some of the best nightlife in the Caribbean, with a wealth of bars and clubs catering to all tastes. There’s also plenty to see and do outside the city, from the beaches of Boca Chica and Juan Dolio to the lush mountain scenery of the Cordillera Central.
