Quedlinburg is a small, sleepy town in the Harz Mountains of Germany that belies its importance in the country’s history. The town is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to its well-preserved medieval architecture and historical significance. The highlight is the Schlossberg (Castle Hill), which is home to the imposing Quedlinburg Castle and a number of other historical landmarks. The town is also a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside, including the Brocken, the highest peak in the Harz Mountains. Be sure to try the local delicacy, Quedlinburger Rostbratwurst, a smoked sausage made with pork and beef.
